Seasonal Maintenance Reminders

Winter (November-February)

  • Lower water temperatures = less chlorine demand, less run time on your pump
  • Lower water temperatures = most salts cells no longer produce chlorine. Know your brand’s specifications. Chlorine tabs may be required to maintain proper chlorine levels.
  • If you have a heater, a solar blanket will save you energy and chemical costs.
  • pH control is very important during the winter – most staining occurs during this time due to relaxed maintenance. Heater exchangers are damaged by pH being out of range.
  • Use Stain Control and Algae Prevention products.
  • Double check your safety equipment
  • If you have a portable spa, drain, clean cartridges and change your Nature 2 spa stick.

Spring (March-April)

  • DE filter cleanings
  • Clean your salt cell
  • Check and clean your cartridges. Do they need to be replaced?
  • Sand filters with sand substitutes (ie Zeobest, etc.), use product for ammonia removal.
  • Pull out those solar blankets! They will extend your swimming season!
  • Get your water tested for Hardness, Phosphates, Stabilizer, as well as chlorine and pH. If you have a salt generator, now is the time to get your salt level checked, as well.
  • This is the time to consider an acid wash. Must be done before ambient temperatures reach 85 degrees. Removes calcium stains and brightens the pool surface.
  • Get a professional checkup on your swimming pool equipment to ensure proper working condition.
  • Stock up on chlorine tabs! Summers coming!!
  • Check over your maintenance equipment (nets, poles, brushes, etc.)
  • Double check your safety equipment (fence latches, life poles/hooks, safety rings, etc.)
  • If you have a portable spa, drain, clean cartridges and change your Nature 2 spa stick.

Summer (May-October)

  • Take off the solar blanket. Proper storage increases the life of the cover.
  • Higher water temperatures + swimmer load = increased chlorine demand and regular super-chlorination to maintain healthy water.
  • Check your water at least weekly to maintain a healthy, sanitized water environment.
  • Come into your local AquaValue dealer to get the latest and greatest in pool toys for the kids!
  • Double check your safety equipment.
  • Clean your salt cell
  • If you have a portable spa, drain, clean cartridges and change your Nature 2 spa stick.

Fall (October 15-November 15th)

  • Solar blankets back on – extend your swimming season.
  • Double check your safety equipment
  • Clean your salt cell
  • Time to start thinking about remodeling. Tile cleaning, acid washing, re-plastering, etc.
  • Fire up your heater! Have a professional inspection of your heater.
